Signal when extruder is feeded

Hi all, I am searching for a solution for the following... For an experiment I need a signal when the stepper motor is feeding one of the extruders of my Creatr XL. I was searching for some logic to directly connect to the 4 wires of the stepper motor that translate the signal on the motor to '0' when not rotating or rotating anti clockwise (not feeding) and '1' when rotating clockwise (feeding). But when there is a point on the board it would be easyer... Has anyone an nice solution for me? To be more informative, I want to mount a laser module on the printer to engrave or cut materials, and the laser has to be on at the moment the printer normaly extrude plastic.
